The aluminum Drive Module cleverly integrates the BMW i3’s lithium-ion battery between front and rear axles, creating near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a low center of gravity for improved stability while cornering. Integrating the battery this way not only allows for agile performance, it frees up considerable space in the cabin above.

Stay Charged

The BMW i3 can be fully recharged in just 4.5 hours using a Level 2 charging station. Get up to an 80% charge in approximately 30-40 minutes with a DC Combo Fast Charger. At home, drivers can install a home charging station through the BMW Installation Services program. On the go, use the ChargeNow Card that comes with your vehicle to access more than 28,000+ U.S. charging stations in the ChargePoint Network, including a growing number of DC Combo Fast Chargers.

On select models, matte chrome exterior trim, new LED fog lights, Adaptive Suspension Dampers, a Wireless Cell Phone Charging Pad, WiFi Hot Spot, and the all-new iDrive Technology interface are all newly standard. The iDrive Infotainment System has been upgraded with new advanced technology. Enhanced Bluetooth connectivity and USB are greatly improved and the convenience of Apple CarPlay is now available. Select models in various BMW Series get two new engine choices. An all-new TurboCharged powerplant producing more robust power is newly available. In chosen BMW Series, some model variants have made revisions replacing previous models with new ones that carry a brand new name. A new Driver's Package joins some high-performance models. Because the top speed has been increased, one full day of Driver Performance Training is offered from BMW. The BMW Navigation System receives an update raising it to the most advanced version. On select hybrid models, a larger volume battery is added with approximately 45% more usable storage capacity returning an impressive 114 miles on one full charge. Select models are no longer offered with an Active Steering (4-Wheel Steering) System. However, a new optional Sports Package is offered with a brand new distinct steering wheel design. Included in the popular Special Package is the Protronic Red Edition which features unique paint, exclusive body trim, a sharp wheel design, and full custom seating. Worthy of note, a limited number of the Special Edition 201 Competition Package is being offered which will boost horsepower from 425 to 444hp. Select models grow slightly in length, yet keep body weight down by using a strong lightweight material such as Magnesium and Aluminum. This achieves a substantial weight savings of 135-pounds which also further improves fuel efficiency. In conclusion, 2017 celebrates an exciting and intelligent all-new BMW model.
