Paired with the TwinPower Turbo 3-cylinder engine in the rear, the all-wheel drive BMW i8 provides a combined maximum power of 357 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. A specially developed heating and air conditioning system ensures as little temperature fluctuations as possible, which significantly increases its service life.

Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic

The passenger compartment of the BMW i3—the LifeDrive module—is completely made of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), which is an especially light and high-strength material that provides outstanding protection to passengers in the event of an emergency. Until now, the manufacture and use of this material for large series production was too difficult, but after 10 years of intensive research and experience in the development of these parts, the BMW Group has found an innovative solution, which now produces carbon fiber and carbon fiber plates in a joint venture with the company SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers.
