BMW xDrive with optional performance control

No two journeys are identical: on a bend, the outer wheels have a longer path than the inner. BMW Performance Control takes up this challenge and uses it to create a more dynamic driving experience by controlling each wheel individually. In modern automobiles, the wheels on the same axle are connected by a differential – a special transmission that compensates this difference in length. BMW Performance Control takes this individual control a step further by changing engine output and, if necessary, applying braking force.

2.0 liter, BMW TwinPower Turbo Engine with 240hp

Small is the next big idea in engines – namely, BMW's mighty inline four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo. Displacing just 2.0 liters, this 240-hp marvel generates 260 lb-ft of torque at just 1250 rpm, for potent thrust that kicks in right from the start and continues all the way up to 4800 rpm. Light-weight and smooth-running, it incorporates BMW's award-winning High Precision direct Injection, Valvetronic and double-VANOS technologies. Its dynamic performance is equaled by spectacular fuel efficiency, taking you further on every gallon of gas.

8 Speed Automatic Transmission

Provides extremely fast synchronized shifting. By increasing the number of gears to eight, the transmission provides a more efficient shifting sequence and improved fuel economy. Includes Adaptive Transmission Control (ATC) with Sport and Manual shift modes and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. When in Sport mode, shifts can be generated via the console-mounted shift lever or the paddle shifters. The close spacing of gear ratios is the optional 8-speed Sport automatic transmission enables maximum use of the optimum rev range, significantly lowering fuel consumption and enhancing shift comfort.

ECO PRO

ECO PRO mode teaches interested drivers to become fuel-efficient experts. Depending on individual driving style, it can result in a fuel savings of up to 20 percent. To motivate the driver, the additional miles gained are displayed as a bonus range by the on-board computer. ECO PRO mode uses engine management software to adjust the engine's output characteristics; the automatic transmission upshifts sooner and remains in a higher gear longer. In cars with manual transmission, the gear shift recommendations change accordingly.

Rear-view camera clearly shows the area behind the vehicle in the Control Display. Working in conjunction with Park Distance Control, interactive guidelines in the Control Display help the driver by showing whether a selected parking space can accommodate the vehicle. Xenon Adaptive Headlights

Our Xenon Adaptive Headlights with distinctive corona rings began as a groundbreaking idea that went on to become a major advancement in safety. Using an electromechanical system, our adaptive headlights follow the direction of the wheels. So as you begin cornering, the headlights turn into and around the bend, which allows you to see more of the road, sooner. Xenon lights, another BMW innovation, help provide clarity by emitting twice as much light as halogen light, while using half as much energy.

Park Distance Control

So intuitive, it helps you see things you normally can't. Park Distance Control uses eight sensors—four in the front, four in the rear—to measure exactly how far you are from other vehicles and unseen objects when parking. As your bumper approaches a stationary object, the image on the iDrive screen changes and beeping becomes faster, turning into a constant tone when the distance is less than 12 inches.
